Overview of the Club

Founded in 1973 in Springvale, Victoria, Australia, the Dandenong Chess Club Inc was originally known as the Springvale Chess Club and was set up with the support of the Springvale City Council and the Victorian Chess Association. The Club grew quickly as chess was at its peak following the exploits of the brilliant Bobby Fischer in 1972.

Since that time the Club has moved on 5 occasions and in 1979 changed its name to reflect its new location. The Dandenong Chess Club Inc is one of the largest chess clubs in Victoria. With its continued growth and the support of past and present members, the aim of the Dandenong Chess Club Inc is to encourage more people to enjoy the game of chess, as well as to foster the development of chess in the region.

The strength of our Club has been the cultural mix of its members and the great friendships that have been made through out the years. The Club has both male and female members as well as young and not-so-young. All people regardless of playing strength are welcome to visit the Club and to join us.

A number of Club members are "Life Members". These are long term members of the Club who have spent many years on committees in various degrees.

The Club runs many tournaments throughout the year, including the Dandenong Autumn Open which attracts a field of around 70 plus players annually.
